　　Natural Disasters

　　In the past hundreds of years, there have been frequent natural disasters, such as droughts floods, mud-rock flows, earthquakes, windstorms and the stretching of the new deserts.

　　The disasters have killed millions upon millions of people, destroyed numerable homes, and wiped out numerous pieces of fertile land. Nowadays more and more people are aware of that those disasters have much to do with what we have done to the earth. We have cut down too many trees in the forests, we have badly polluted the environment, we have shocked our own home-planet time and again with tremendously powerful explosions of nuclear bombs. As a result, climates have become warmer, rainwater rushes down hillsides angrily, and the underground energy goes up to revenge itself on us.

　　The earth is our only home-planet. It is urgent for us to stop damaging it. It is time for us to do our best to protect our home and make it a lovely place suitable to live in, for we have nowhere to go and survive except where we are now.

　　The Development of a Private Car

　　With the increase in the general standard of life, some ordinary Chinese families begin to afford a car. However, opinions of the development of a private car vary from person to person.

　　Some people hold the view that there are many advantages in possessing a car. It gives a much greater degree of comfort and mobility. The owner of a car is no longer forced to rely on public transport, and buses or taxies. With a car he can go where he likes and when he wants, so much so that he can enjoy his leisure to the full by making trips to the country or seaside on the weekends, instead of being confined to his immediate neighborhood.

　　However, other people strongly object to develop private cars. They maintain that as more and more cars are produced and run in the street, a large volume of poisonous gas will be given off, polluting the atmosphere and causing actual harm to the health of people. Actually, private cars lead to traffic congestion so greatly that advantages gained in comfort and freedom are often cancelled out by the frustration caused by traffic jams.

　　Whether private cars should be developed in China is a difficult question to answer.

　　On Selfishness

　　Frankly speaking, selfishness is not a strange thing to all of us. It's human nature to be selfish. A selfish person puts his own interests first. However, selfish persons are not welcomed by society.

　　Selfishness will do great harm to both our society and ourselves. Where does selfishness come from? There is no trouble answering it. The source of selfishness is the pursuit of one's personal interests, such as money and fame. Everyone wants to satisfy themselves, so selfish people can do everything regardless of other's interests. He also thinks it right that nothing ventured, nothing gained. As a result, many selfish people end up in prison. There is no point living only for oneself. On earth, we live in the same planet which needs warm hearted people who help each other. Therefore no one can say he doesn't need other's help.

　　Who can live completely alone? We should devote our love to each other and be considerate towards each other, in this way the world will become a beautiful place.

　　Selfishness should be done away with.
